Because I now have the gift of experiencing challenging experiences, I know they are an aspect of Saturnian teaching.
Saturn teaches on a slower timetable than the rest of his brethren in the Heavens, which means you’ll learn something about the importance of patience of you’re paying attention.
Stoic joins his “St” word compatriots under Saturn’s steady stare, words relating to time like “stop, start, last and first” can be found there, as can stability, instant, starlight and structure, Saturn’s words are built to last.
So, absolutely, if caught in a moment you can’t get out of, try loving it and seeing what happens.
Saturn may have something magical up his sleeve, after all.
Mari, I don’t know if you’re interested in exploring astrological symbolism but some of that perspective on Saturn I shared I owe a big tip of the cap to my teacher, Adam Elenbaas, who gave this excellent presentation on “the mystical Saturn.”
The gist of it is that until Uranus was discovered in 1781, for thousands of years Saturn was seen as the gateway to the Gods because it was the furthest from the Sun.
As a result some of the significations of the newly discovered outer planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) were given to Saturn, including that it was the archetype of the hermit on the outskirts of the village (or in an isolated monastery) and the shaman in the forest.
Once I learned this, I was able to deepen my love, appreciation and understanding of this complex yet profound archetype which plays such a key role in my chart.
There’s much more there which I can share with you some other time—our next speedwalk around an icy winter lake? (Or, more likely since I hope to visit in late summer, a sunny summer Puget Sound!)—but for now, if you want to go further, here’s a link to a version of Adam’s “mystical Saturn” talk.
Thank you for this gift, Bryan, yes, I'm interested to dig in more. I've been exploring Saturn (and all my planets) a lot more since doing the Daimon Lab with Daljeet. I'm digging some Human Design, too, and the hermit archetype is resonant with me in various different ways. And I love how layers of complexity are revealed. I'm so new to this, and the revealings/revelations are... meaningful and poingnant.
Yes to a walk! If late summer, I'll "know" even more by then. :D
I love it!
